Updates (26 Apr 2012)

It's fair to say that any project like the scope filmography represents a compilation of magpie borrowings from other sources, such as online and print materials. Most of the info detailed in my own listings can be found scattered all over the Web and in various published books and articles. What the filmog attempts to do, in its own way, is to gather up all the info on this particular subject and organise it into a single resource where it can be accessed by those with an interest in the subject.

With this in mind, I've begun tackling the one area of the filmog which has remained largely unresolved until now - original titles for all the entries in the list of Indian films, whether Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam or whatever. I've been putting it off because the list as it currently stands - as incomplete as it may be - is absolutely huge! However, the burden has been lessened slightly by my discovery of a film database at the Rate Your Music website, which includes original titles - not transliterations - for all the relevant entries in its database. That said, the site contains only around half the titles in my list of Indian scope movies, so that leaves a great deal of work still to be done. The research goes on...

I'll publish the results of those endeavours in due course, once I've exhausted all possible lines of enquiry. In the meantime, I'll continue to provide updates for those films already listed in the Indian filmog. As follows:

The copyright year of AJNABEE has been messed up and reads '20010'. In fact, it should read 2001, and the original Hindi title is अजनबी. Similarly, the film currently listed as Anubhav: The Experience should be given as ANUBHAV: AN EXPERIENCE (2003), and the original Hindi title is अनुभव.

The film currently listed as Bhagyadevathan should be titled BHAGYADEVATHA (2009) - the original Malayalam title has yet to be identified.

AFTER THE BREAK is the English-language AKA for BREAK KE BAAD (2010), and the original Hindi title is ब्रेक के बाद.

The copyright year for CHANDAMAMA is 1999, not 1997 as currently listed, and the original Malayalam title is ചന്ദ മാമ. A Telugu film of the same name was produced in 2007.

AFTER THE BREAK (see: Break Ke Baad)
AJNABEE [अजनबी] (2001) [A]
ANUBHAV: AN EXPERIENCE [अनुभव] (2003) [A]
BHAGYADEVATHA (2009) [A]
BREAK KE BAAD [ब्रेक के बाद] / After the Break (2010)
CHANDAMAMA [ചന്ദ മാമ] (1999)

In entries from other countries: The film currently listed as How I Spent My Summer Vacation has now been released in its native US as GET THE GRINGO (2011), which now becomes the primary title - Vacation becomes an AKA.

Some of the 1970's Lone Wolf and Cub series were released in English-dubbed form under various titles, as follows: LONE WOLF AND CUB: BABY CART IN THE LAND OF DEMONS (1973) became FIVE FISTFULS OF GOLD, while LONE WOLF AND CUB: BABY CART IN PERIL (1973) became SLASHING BLADES OF CARNAGE (which sounds much better than the original!). In a similar vein, LONE WOLF AND CUB: WHITE HEAVEN IN HELL (1974) became COLD ROAD TO HELL.

Further to comments made in the blog entry for 21 Feb 2012 (now amended), the US title of THE PIRATES! IN AN ADVENTURE WITH SCIENTISTS (2012) is now officially listed as THE PIRATES! BAND OF MISFITS (which may not tally with the book on which it's based, but still sounds like a better title). I've had this info for a couple of weeks now, so I'm grateful to Gary Couzens for reminding me to put it online!!
