Gary Couzens writes to confirm that THE COMMISAR (1967) is in black and white with a tinted sequence. Gary also confirms that ESSENTIAL KILLING (2010) should be dropped from the list, since it was filmed and released with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1.

The film currently listed as "CROCODILE" DUNDEE (1986) was actually released in its native Australia without quotation marks. As Gary points out, the quotes were added to international prints, presumably by cynical execs who thought audiences might otherwise think the film was about a reptile! Yes, they really do think we're THAT stupid...

Gary also points out that DOCTOR, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING (1967) is currently listed as Doctor, You've Go To Be Kidding (?!! - try saying it with a Scottish accent, it actually sounds OK!), and that DOGS IN SPACE (1986) was shot in Super 35 (ie. 'spheri-crop'), not Panavision as currently listed. The S35 format is confirmed in the film's closing credits.

THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON (2008): Gary alerted me to a hideous mistake on this one. The director is, of course, David Fincher - not Michael Mann, as currently listed!

KISS ME is an AKA for KYSS MIG (2011).

LADY SNOWBLOOD: BLIZZARD FROM THE NETHERWORLD is an AKA for LADY SNOWBLOOD (1973), not LADY SNOWBLOOD: LOVE SONG OF VENGEANCE (1974) as currently listed.

And direct from the 'Small But Crucial Details' department: The film currently listed as Return of the Streetfighter is actually RETURN OF THE STREET FIGHTER (1974), while The Street Fighter's Last Revenge is THE STREETFIGHTER'S LAST REVENGE (1974).

These entries now run as follows:

Updates ("Daimajin" series revised, etc.)

The copyright date for Neil Marshall's CENTURION has been changed from 2010 to 2009, while the copyright date for WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN has been changed from 2011 to 2010.

CHALLENGE THE NINJA (1986): Director Godfrey Ho Jeung-keung is credited on-screen as 'Joel Law'. However, this entry remains incomplete because the identity of the Filipino film used as the template for this 'cut-n-paste' epic has yet to be identified.

All listings for the Daimajin series of films produced in Japan in 1966 have now been completely revised. The confusion surrounding these entries occurred because the US home video distributors released them under different names over the years, sometimes giving two of them the same title from one release to another (for example, two of the films were released as WRATH OF DAIMAJIN), leading to no end of frustration for researchers. Hopefully, this revision puts the mystery to bed once and for all, at least for the purposes of this filmography.

EROS SCHEDULE BOOK: CONCUBINE SECRETS and SENSUAL HISTORY: SHOGUN'S HAREM SECRET STORY are AKA's for CASTLE ORGIES (1971).

MAGNIFICENT FIST is directed by Kun Aug, and the copyright year 1978 has now been confirmed.

The film currently listed as Real Kung Fu of Shaolin Pt. 1 should be given as simply REAL KUNG FU OF SHAOLIN (1980), while Shao Lin Brothers is actually SHAOLIN BROTHERS (1980).

Updates and corrections from my regular correspondents:

First off, Gary Couzens writes to say BRAN NUE DAE (2009) has been retitled BRAND NEW DAY in some English-speaking territories.

Though printed on colour film stock, THE GENERAL (1997) was printed in - and intended for - black and white.

MAD DOG is an AKA for Philippe Mora's MAD DOG MORGAN (1976).

MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME (1985) was co-directed by George Miller and George Ogilvie.

And S. Martin writes to confirm that CHÉRI (2009) employed a number of different anamorphic lenses during principal photography - Technovision, J-D-C and Kowa.

The Japanese film OUTRAGE (2010) employed Kowa anamorphic lenses.

THE APPARITION (2012) is confirmed as having been shot with J-D-C and Panavision anamorphic lenses.

BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT (2009) and MARGIN CALL (2011) were both photographed and exhibited at 1.85:1 and have now been dropped from the filmography altogether.

My thanks to both correspondents for their contributions this time round.

Updates ("G.I. Joe" delayed, "Bad Boy Bubby", etc.)

First up, a smorgasbord of AKA's for existing entries in the scope filmography: 100 MONSTERS is an AKA for THE HUNDRED MONSTERS (1968), while BLIND SWORDSMAN: FIGHT, ZATOICHI, FIGHT is an AKA for FIGHT, ZATOICHI, FIGHT (1964). On a similar note, THE BLIND SWORDSMAN'S REVENGE is an AKA for ZATOICHI'S REVENGE (1965), while DEATHWORK is an AKA for CAPTAIN APACHE (1971).

Just to prove there's more where that lot came from: DJANGO, KILL... IF YOU LIVE, SHOOT! is an AKA for SE SEI VIVO, SPARA (1967), while TEXAS, ADIOS is an AKA for TEXAS, ADDIO (1966). Confusingly, THE VAMPIRE WOMAN is an AKA for VAMPIRE MAN (1959). And lastly, ZOMBIE HELL HOUSE is an AKA for QUELLA VILLA ACCANTO AL CIMITERO (1981).

The film listed as SHAOLIN MONK FIGHTS BACK should be listed under the primary title THE WANDERING MONK (1980). The latter title is currently given as an AKA, but the two should now be reversed (see revised entry, below).

On a similar note, the AKA for SUEÑO Y SILENCIO (2011) currently listed as Dream and Silence should be given as THE DREAM AND THE SILENCE.

The film currently listed as Agi Murad: Il Diavolo Banco should be given as AGI MURAD: IL DIAVOLO BIANCO (1958). Similarly, the on-screen title of Fatal Needles vs. Fatal Fist is actually FATAL NEEDLES FATAL FIST (1978), while Il Giorno dell'Ira should be IL GIORNI DELL'IRA (1967).

Gary Couzens writes to confirm that BAD BOY BUBBY (1993) was shot with anamorphic Technovision lenses, not Super 35. This was a genuine surprise to me, since every reference source which bothers to mention a photographic format for this film lists it as Super 35. I've even seen the damn thing myself (many, many moons ago) and I didn't know it was anamorphic until Gary supplied me with frame-grab evidence from a current DVD which clinched the deal - Technovision it is! Thanks, Gary.

Gary also writes to say that TEN CANOES (2006) has some colour sequences and isn't wholly in black and white, as currently listed. The film is also co-directed by Peter Djigirr.

Based on a personal viewing of the film itself, the copyright date of DEVIL'S BRIDGE has been changed from 2010 to 2011. Meanwhile, LA FILLE DE DRACULA is 1972, not 1971.

Originally due for release in 2012, G.I. JOE: RETALIATION has been held back until spring 2013 for re-shoots and the addition of 3-D.

KILLER PRIEST is an AKA for SHAOLIN MONK (1977), whose director - currently given as Lam Fook-dei - should actually be listed as Lin Fu-ti.

The director of LEGEND OF BRUCE LEE (1976) is Ling Ping.

And the on-screen title of Roman Polanski's version of 'The Scottish Play' is THE TRAGEDY OF MACBETH (1971) and not Macbeth: The Tragedy of Macbeth as currently given.
