Recent Japanese cinema is the primary focus of this particular update. The Japanese entertainment industry continues to produce anime films at a rapid pace, many of them in scope format, and most of these continue to be rendered via 'traditional' cel animation rather than CGI. However, this leaves me in something of a quandary, since I don't know whether they were shot with HD cameras or (as in the past) on 35mm film. If it's the latter, are they photographed in Super 35, or do the filmmakers employ anamorphic lenses? It's impossible to know from simply looking at the films themselves, so I've no choice but to mark the relevant titles with an asterisk, indicating that these entries are incomplete, missing full details of the photographic process employed on individual titles.
